Awards and Prizes

Each year, outstanding students from the Department of Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American Studies are awarded a number of prizes and scholarships unique to this department, as well as other awards granted by the Faculty of Humanities of the Hebrew University:

  • The Raúl Kirtchuk Prize (Premio Raul Kirtchuk) : An award in memory of Raúl Kirtchuk, who was a lover of Iberian and Latin-American culture. This prize is awarded to advanced students (graduate students and doctoral candidates) from the Department of Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American Studies for exceptional masters' theses, outstanding research projects, or PhD dissertations. This prize is granted every year at a public ceremony attended by representatives of the Kirtchuk family.
  • The Esther Seligson Prize (Premio Literario Esther Seligson), was established in memory of Esther Seligson (1941-2010), a renowned Mexican writer, poet and translator who carried out extensive literary activity in Israel. The award is granted to students from the Department of Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American Studies for outstanding research-papers in the field of Iberian and Latin-American literature.
  • The Eduardo Kovalivker and Family Award (Becas Eduardo Kovalivker y familia): Prestigious scholarships awarded by Mr. Eduardo Kovalivker to MA students in the Department of Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American Studies for excellence in their studies.
  • Casa Brasil Scholarships (Becas "Casa Brasil") for MA and PhD students in the Department of Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American Studies, for outstanding research-papers on Brazilian history and literature.
